My favourite body lotions & face moisturisers from 2020

It's already 2021, I cannot believe we are almost a year into lockdown and this crazy global pandemic that has changed our lives so much. I will admit that I have immensely missed writing for this blog over the past couple of months. I have especially missed the reviews and sharing my content with you all. I did continue sharing my life and things I got upto on social media, so follow me there too!

Like many others, during the hard lockdown in SA, I spent so much time on myself, trying new products, experimenting with makeup and skincare, AND I also started my YouTube channel, which has been a long time dream of mine. I love that the channel is slowly growing and we are creating a community of people. My dream was never to become a BIG TIME YouTuber, but rather to have a place on the internet that I could create and share content with, which is also why I started this blog.

Okay, too much rambling, let's get into this post!

I have two affordable and drugstore category body lotions and two face moisturisers that I used until they were empty or almost empty through last year, so believe that I have put each one to good test. Let me know which of the below you love:

First up is the Mixa Restoring Body Lotion. This was gifted to me and at first glance, I had never seen or heard of this brand before. It's says its for VERY dry skin. I have dry skin and I know the texture and the products that work best for dry skin, but not this brand.

Anyway, I thought I would give it a try. I started using the product and remember initially thinking, this is definitely not for VERY dry skin. I was correct, it isn't. The consistency is very lightweight and quick absorbing. It disappears on the skin in a matter of seconds but does travel far when rubbed on arms and legs. The lotion itself is very thin, non-sticky and fluid, with a very distinct fragrance that reminds of the generic lotion smells from the drugstore.

In conclusion, this product is perfect for Summer, when you don't need heavy moisturising lotions as it does not offer intense hydration and moisture to the skin. I loved using this product for the days when I was at home, the weather was warmer and I just wanted something lightweight to rub over my skin.

If you have extremely dry skin, this product probably is not for you, but might work for oilier skin types. Would I repurchase, maybe.

Next for body lotion is the Sorbet Hydrating Body Butter with Tangerine, Calendula, Shea Butter and Vitamin C.

The skin of tangerines and most citrus fruits contains bioflavonoid, also known as Vitamin P, that is very beneficial to the skin. This vitamin optimizes the absorption and utilization of Vitamin C. Calendula oil has antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that might make it useful in healing wounds, soothing eczema, and relieving diaper rash. It's also used as an antiseptic. Shea Butter being a nut extract has several benefits, which mostly include moisturising and Vitamin C is commonly known to brighten and hydrate skin.

These four ingredients certainly work well together creating a pleasant smelling, thick texture body butter. As with the Mixa Body Lotion, this one is also quick penetrating and seeps right into the skin almost instantly.

It is slightly more moisturising than Mixa but I do sometimes find myself reapplying after a few hours. I don't necessarily think this is great for dry ski, but if you have dry skin it works moderately well. I probably won't repurchase this as I want to try the other butters from the Sorbet range, but other than, I would.

Moving onto face moisturisers. During the Winter months in 2020, my skin went through a severe dry phase. My current moisturisers seem to stop working for me and nothing I tried made it any better. I started seeing flakiness, parts of my face was peeling and my eye lids and under eyes started forming eczema.

I decided to try something new out of desperation. Bepanthen Sensiderm cream helped me so much. I would use some of this and mix it with coconut oil and apply this generously to my skin every night, and within two weeks my skin started looking much better. Bepanthen is made to soothe dry skin and relieve skin irritation, but is so gentle on your skin at the same time as its cortizone free.

I have since stopped as my skin has returned to its normal texture, but I still try to include this step my night time routine as least once a week.

Last but no least is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost lotion. When the brand launched this range last year, it sounded like the perfect option for dry skin sufferers, and of course I had to give it a go.

At first application, it did cause a burning sensation when applied on my dry areas, but with no irritation or redness, so I continued usage. After a few uses this sensation did subside and I started seeing results. My skin's texture was a lot more supple, less dry and looked brighter.

The moisturising factor of this lotion is certainly uncontested and highly recommended. And the best part is a little goes a long way. It's thick consistency, and instant hydration make it one of my most recommended products for your face for 2020. I will certainly be reprucashing this one :-)

That brings me to the end of this post. Please let me know what you love / dislike / recommend and have tried in the comments. Share this post with your friends and family. subscribe to our eyelash community, I would love to have you!

Until next time...
