Our planet is our home. It's what sustains life and too often its taken for granted. In light of #PlasticfFreeJuly , I have decided to reduce the amount of plastic I use as well as purchase.
Any step will make a difference, whether you no longer use plastic straws, bringing shopping bags with you when you go shopping to avoid purchasing bags or simply using recycling bins, you are making a difference.

According to Pick n Pay, the average lifespan of a reusable bag can equate to over 700 disposable plastic bags.
In the past year, the Shoprite Group, which represents both Shoprite and Checkers, sold 700 million plastic bags made from 100% post-consumer recycled material, diverting 7,000 tons of plastic from landfill.
An estimated two million bags are thrown away every minute globally, and just 5% of people re-using plastic bags that are used for an average of 12 minutes.
According to waste management only 1% of plastic bags are returned for recycling and up to 80% of ocean plastic pollution is from land.

The concept was created by Jade Du Toit on a family holiday up the West Coast of South Africa. After walking the beach with her young son and daughter and seeing the amount of plastic built up, she went on a search to find a reusable tote bag that was aesthetically pleasing, durable and compact.
