Experience the Spirit of Africa: Misty Hills, Muldersdrift

We escaped the city for a quick weekend away to the countryside. These spontaneous trips are what life is all about (LOL)! I think I was just excited to be going away and escaping the monotony of every day life.

We went to Misty Hills Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa which is nestled in the foothills of the Swartkop mountains on the threshold of the beautiful Kromdraai Valley in Muldersdrift. This place truly afforded me the serenity I was craving, and its was only a 20 minute drive from home (score).

Misty Hills offers its visitors a traditional African experience with a modern twist. Being South African, I personally never get tired of experiencing my country and all its facets, so this was right up my alley. The vintage-looking stone-built hotel exemplifies Africa, which is further enhanced by 60 acres of lush botanical gardens. You are never robbed of spectacular views.

There are 195 stone-built thatched rooms and suites to choose from. Each room is furnished to complement the indigenous South African surroundings and lavishly decorated with brightly coloured African fabrics, artworks and handmade furniture.

The room was clean, had a bath and shower, closet space, a safe, two chairs, TV and a heater which was perfect as July is right in the middle of Winter in SA.

Breakfast every morning is complementary and the spread is quite splendid. What I appreciated was the Mealie Pap/porridge that was served. Yes, they serve this for breakfast! Upon seeing this I turned into a kid in a candy store. My fellow South Africans will have memories from their childhood growing up with this as a staple meal in their households.

What’s even better is that Misty Hills is also home to the world-famous Carnivore Restaurant. This restaurant offers a truly authentic African dining experience a variety of sumptuous game and domestic meats. Our experience will be documented in an entirely separate blog, it was incomparable to say the least.

The hotel itself is very big and walking between restaurants can tire an unfit person, but there are porters who are at your beck and call to transport you around the property, which helped me immensely, especially in this cold weather.

The service was spectacular, our rich African hospitality really is like none other which makes exploring the splendour of the hotel that much better. There is a Spa as well as a bar on the premises, so you are able to have a relaxing massage while the boys entertain themselves at the bar.

Their ‘Spa in the Country’ was voted one of the top spas in South Africa, offering lots of indulgent packages to suit individuals, couples, groups and corporate clients.

If the spirit of Africa is what you are after, inquire for more information. I had a wonderful time and I ma sure you will too.

Peace&Love
