Mother's Day at Mangwanani River Valley Spa

This year - unlike other Mother's Days, I was out of ideas. Having done almost everything under the sun for my Mom, it was hard to reinvent the wheel this year.

I spent a full week online digging for an idea. I had thought of a girl's day of pampering, but what form would this take and how on earth would I make it different?! I came across Mangwanani. Previously, I hadn't thought of booking with them as My mom has been back in 2004 and we often go for massages, so this wouldn't be something different. Well, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Their product offering was quite striking, and I kept looking through their website. In all but an hour everything was booked. A full spa day at the River Valley Spa in Haartebeesport, with breakfast, lunch and snacks as well as the transfer service from Monte Casino. What I liked the most was that it was easy, from the booking process to the arrival on the day AND all I had to do was book and pay, The rest they took care of.

The Day's activities

Everything was on time from the transfers to the massages and organisation throughout the day. On arrival we were greeted with a traditional African song and dance by the staff and then escorted to our breakfast tables to change into our gowns and slippers.

The day started at 08h30 and ended at 17h30. A full nine hour day under the Autumn sun, in a pure blissful environment, sounds of birds and flowing water, people chatters. Your surroundings force you to relax, enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life.

Everything was nothing short of amazing! We had a total of seven treatments throughout the day, at different locations at the spa. Each customised to the requirements of the massage, in order to produce the best outcome.

- Breakfast and introductions

- Full body Swedish massage with Hot Stone Therapy

- Sugar body scrub and massage

- Relaxing facial

- Break for lunch

- Jacuzzi (they aren't private, however we had our own)

- Sugar scrub and hand massage

- Head and shoulder massage + Indian head

- Sugar scrub and foot massage

Each activity lasted about an hour and in the interim there was drinks being served as well as snacks available (all inclusive in your package with alcohol), and face paints of traditional patterns.

Just the right amount of TLC

Time was never rushed nor did you feel under pressure to figure out what was next. The staff was friendly, oganised and took care of everything person whether in pairs, groups or alone, everyone was treated like Kings and Queens. There was sufficient time during the day where you could order a drink and relax on a sun bed and take it all in. This is what I appreciated the most, as it was a Mother's Day treat, we had time alone to talk and catch-up.

The massages themselves was relaxing, long enough and pressure was customised to your liking. From our toes to the top our heads was massaged, relieving the knots and stress. I noticed that the staff took their time on each person, offering them well-deserved tender, love and care.

I know that for years to come, my Mom and I will remember and look back on this day, with smiles on our faces.
