SERIES ADDICT: 2019 Picks and Ticks

Let's not lie to ourselves, with the introduction of WiFi and Fibre at home coupled with the likes of satellite TV, Netflix and Showmax, it's become hard to imagine a life without SERIES. So, why not embrace all that we can. It's okay to stay home all weekend and catch up on the series you missed out on during the week. Winter is around the corner and Autumn is already freezing! The best place to be is tucked up in bed or on your couch with some good ol' series to keep you company.

This year, I made a commitment to source and complete all the series I used to watch (and loved) and make time to relax and enjoy my favourite show in my 'me time routine'. I have also been open to suggestions. The series I have watched so far have been gripping and become part of my household.

These suggestions might not be what's hot off the press but its more recommendations, if you're looking to spice up your library at home, consider the below.

Empire 2015 (Season 6 currently airing on FOX & Season 5 on catch up on DsTV)

Mindblown! From the first episode in Season 1 right until Season 5 (which I am currently watching) I have been taken, stolen, abducted and kidnapped by this show.

It stars Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Bryshere Y. Gray, Jussie Smollett and Trai Byers as the Lyon family who together have built and run their own musical Empire. Set in the backdrop of the metropolitan New York, this musical drama takes you through the real ups and downs of building an Empire.

Its a must-watch. Each episode is 42 minutes long giving you as much drama as possible with about 18 episodes in each season. What I personally appreciate about the series is its uniqueness and appeal. It keeps you guessing and when you least expect it, the plot twists and thickens.

YOU 2019 (Season 1 on Netflix)

If you like dark, psychological thriller's - this show is for you!

The first season is based on the eponymous 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes and follows Joe Goldberg, a New York bookstore manager (Penn Badgley) who falls in love with a customer named Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and quickly becomes obsessed with her.

In the series we discover the complex mind of Joe and how far he is willing to go for love. The mind of someone with a mental illness is not as simple as we may think it is, hence this show forces you to see the other side of the coin and teaches you patience and understanding towards people like this.

For those of you who know Pen Badgley from Gossip Girl, in this show we see a completely different side of him which critics have commended him for his performance and portrayal of the character.

The show has been renewed for Season 2, so stay tuned for that.

The Affair 2017 (3 Seasons on Netflix)

The Affair explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship between Noah Solloway and Alison Lockhart (Dominic West and Ruth Wilson) after they casually meet at the diner where Alison works. As the episodes go on - we are exposed to more details that aren't visible in the beginning.

It's a very real and uncut portrayal of having an affair. What I really enjoyed is the different perspectives that are given in each episode. We are able to watch the same situation occur in the lives of each person involved through their eyes.

The show requires your full attention and dedication and will most certainly take you on a journey!

Dirty John 2017 (Season 1 on Netflix)

Based on a true life occurrence, this show is more of a reenactment of the life of John Meehan through the eyes of his wife Debra Newell. Its a story of manipulation, dealing with themes of abuse and manipulation, as well as the behaviors of those being abused.

I will recommend that if this is something you don't normally associate with rather don't watch the show - as it can be disturbing. The series is not for everyone. Both the the series and the actual real-life documentary is available on Netflix.

Dynasty 2017 (Seasons 1 & 2 are on Netflix)

Dynasty is an American prime time television soap opera reboot based on the 1980s series of the same name. It's a classic family drama, the conflict, the love, the tragedy and the diversity under the umbrella of wealth and hierarchy.

This is show is pure 'soapie' entertainment, a chick flicks dream, a night in with popcorn and coke. Its for a giggle and little cry here and there. I enjoy the show for this simple reason. It provides an escape, and alternate world that you can get lost in for a few hours and reemerge a mew person.

While, these shows are more or less the same type of show, they all offer something completely different. I hope these help you in your Winter series picks. Comment below and tell me what you have been watching so I can add those to my list.
