DIY Thursday: 5 easy steps to make your own at home face scrub

Having discovered the healing properties of using natural and products, I decided to try out making my own at home face scrub as part of my skin rejuvenation journey.

I googled some natural ingredients which are beneficial to the skin such as turmeric powder and lemon juice. I mixed everything together to created a face scrub to try out. I have to admit I have never used such an intense face scrub in my life.

It worked magic on my skin and left it feeling smooth for a fraction of the cost. If you want to learn how I made my own at home face scrub, keep reading :-)

what you will need

  1. A wooden board

  2. Two measuring teaspoons

  3. A bowl

  4. Four cups - you can also use shooter glasses

  5. Three teaspoon bicarbonate soda

  6. Two of lemon juice

  7. one teaspoon turmeric powder

  8. One teaspoon Honey

It's important here to measure out in your bowl how much you need of a specific ingredient as this can vary. Just make sure at all times your mixture similiar to what mine looked like.

step one

Pour the bicarbonate soda into the bowl after measuring the amount you need or as recommended above

step two

Add your lemon juice to the bowl with the bicarbonate soda and watch it fizz up

step three

At this point you want to let the fizz calm down before you start mixing it with the other teaspoon. The aim is to properly mix the two ingredients into each other until it forms a thick paste which looks something like this...

step four

Now you want to add your honey to the mix, simply just pour the syrup into your spoon and add to the bowl

And mix away...

step five

You will be left with a smoother looking paste in your bowl. This mixture tends to dry down quite fast so as soon as you are done mixing it's time to add the last ingredient - turmeric powder.

And again mix, mix and mix more...

Eventually this is what you will have left. Your very own at home face mask. All that's left now is to apply to the skin with a foundation brush to avoid using your hands and adding germs to the skin.

Benefits of each ingredient:

  1. Bicarbonate soda - is sodium bicarbonate, a natural substance that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. This alkaline substance has antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a powerful medical tool effective at combating everything from colds to oral problems to skin issues.

  2. Lemon juice - great for blackhead treatment due to antibacterial properties and it can help treat acne. It's also a skin brightener: Lemons are rich in vitamin C and citric acid, so they can help brighten and lighten your skin when used over time.

  3. Turmeric powder - helps with acne scars and dark spots.

  4. Honey - Acne - honey is naturally antibacterial, so it's great for acne treatment and prevention while also great for slowing down aging and being a complexion booster. It is extremely moisturising and soothing, so it helps create a glow.

It is as simply as that.I hope this has helped you and I hope you try making your own at home. There are a few other ingredients you can use and swop out the ingredients as you wish such as: Rose water, sandalwood oil/powder and aloe vera gel squeezed from the plant itself.

Natural is always the way to go!
